First baby shower

The ladies from the YMCA threw me my first baby shower this weekend. I have to say it was quite fun! We played measure my belly, name that baby food, and nursery rhyme trivia. I definitely need to brush up on my nursery rhymes before Bailey arrives...I was horrible! That is a sad statement coming from a Kindergarten teacher.
Here is the cake that Kathy made. Yes, I said made and yes from stratch! I don't think there isn't anything that woman can do.

Here are the party favors. Cute handmade pacifiers...they were not store bought ladies and gentlemen. I thought they were a clever little treat.

Valentine's Day

I have officially spent the last Valentine's Day with Lane as his only valentine. It was a nice one! We didn't do much, just spent a little QT with each other. Bailey, don't worry I don't mind sharing daddy as our Valentine! However I will always be his "OV" (original valentine)!

Why?

So over the last two weeks, we have had several "snow" storms. (ok so these snow storms are anything compared to what occurs in the North). We southerns don't do snow! I do love enjoying all four seasons however, this winter is a little too much. We had to postpone our first baby shower last weekend and we have missed 6 days of school all due to mother nature's desire to shower us with snow. Well listen Mother Nature, I'm over it!
However, this post is not intended to ask Mother Nature why? But to Chesterfield County School Board members, I ask WHY? Everyone in the state of Virginia knew there was another snow storm coming our way. Yes we didn't know what this storm was going to bring, but the ice started last night. So one would think that this might impact the decision on whether or not to send students and teachers to school. For some strange reason, none of the members listened to Andrew (the local weather man). If last nights ice didn't influence you to make a decision on school, then did you look outside this morning around 5:30am? Well guess what that's when the snow started.
I do recall listening to several reporters on the TV saying that road conditions would only get worse as the morning goes on. Well our high school students must be at school at 7am, with most of them driving themselves...hello dangerous! As a future parent, I do not feel comfortable having the area roads flooded with newly licensed drivers with both ice and snow on the road. But our local officials were ok with this! And since you were comfortable sending 16, 17, and 18 year old drivers to school, I thought well I guess I need to get my booty to school.
After a little...ok well maybe a lot of complaining to Lane, I jumped into the car at 7:06 am to head to teach some 5 years old. Our neighborhood roads weren't too bad however, we I reached the main road (Route 288) it was horrible! So, let's think about this...the major interstate roads are not clear/cleaned but let's still send our thousands of students to school anyway. Once I turned off the exit, I normally have about 6 minutes left in my commute, but not today...it took me another 20 minutes to get into the school's parking lot. Before I got to the parking lot, I watched a young driver spin out while trying to get up a hill. She had to pull to the side of the road because she couldn't continue to her destination. Additionally, there was a school bus on the side of the road which had been hit head on by a car. And at this point we are still going to school...on time!
I get to school, at 7:50am, where I am greeted by my principal saying there is a two hour delay. Well fabulous, considering we are supposed to get our students in 10 minutes! I'm sure a majority of our parents didn't the memo of the delay. I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to tell them to turn around and come back in 2 hours.
I make the journey down the hallway to my classroom to find only ten teachers in their rooms. A slight wave of jealous took over me...I want to be at home like the rest of the staff! About ten minutes later we get an announcement that we are officially closed! Well congratulations you finally made a good decision! However, now I have to get back home in this mess. Board members, thank you for putting my life and Bailey's life in jeopardy... not once but twice. So finally after contemplating whether or not to leave, I bit the bullet and jumped into the car. And yet again, the usually 25 minute drive turned into a stressful 45 minute commute.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I am home safely! (thanks again for listening and next time Board members lets not put people in danger!)

Update

Here you go...my belly! This picture was taken last week at 31 weeks. Very different from the last belly picture! See you can't see the hernia, but I promise it's there.

So this weekend is supposed to be my first baby shower. However, they are calling for 10 to 20 inches of snow. Are you kidding me?! That is ridiculous. We got roughly 10 inches this past weekend, why do we need more? I'm not complaining about having the 3 days off from school, but seriously! I'm over the snow and cold. And top it all off...the groundhog saw his shadow, so we have 6 more weeks of winter. I can't take it much longer!
